This program manages your Services (background executable programs). It starts quietly and runs invisibly while you're using Windows 8, but has been known to cause CPU issues. If your operating system is sluggish, open your Task Manager by pressing the CTRL+ALT+DEL keys together and select the Details tab to see svchost.exe at work. If the process is occupying one-hundred percent of the machine's resources, then something's wrong.

Check for a virus because malicious software loves to disguise itself as a regular program. Also, try uninstalling new programs to track down the issue. Out of control Services also cause issues. Try turning off uPnP Device Host. This is a known culprit. Call up your Run dialog box by hitting Windows+R and type Services.msc into the dialog box. Find and disable uPnP Device Host, restart the computer, and check to see if the resource level has dropped.
