An improved Sleep Mode function works wonders when restoring the OS from a long slumber, helping you to avoid full shutdowns and save energy. Unfortunately, the new feature for your desktop or laptop adds a new layer of software and hardware complexity. Make sure you enjoy energy savings by entering Hibernate or Sleep properly. Inspect your power settings by selecting Hardware and Sound > Power Options after you open the Control Panel. Remember, sleeping computers wake faster but hibernating machines take longer to restore, the reason being all your currently open files are stored in a special file called hiber.sys. If this last tip doesn't do the trick, you may have to go and get under the hood and do some troubleshooting by independently monitoring devices for typical wake signals.
